Art as STR Marketing

For Airbnb and vacation rental hosts, wall art is not just decor. It is a listing photo element, a guest experience component, and a brand signal. Properties with well-chosen, photogenic art typically earn better listing photos, higher perceived quality ratings, and stronger guest reviews.

The Listing Photo Standard

Art in STR properties needs to hold up in wide-angle smartphone photography, which is how most guests see it before booking. Art that looks interesting without being overwhelming, that adds depth to a room in a photo, and that harmonizes with the furniture palette will photograph well. Busy patterns and very small art disappear in listing photos.

Art Strategy by Property Type

  • Coastal property: ocean photography, abstract seascapes, coastal lifestyle art that matches the location
  • Urban apartment: abstract, city photography, contemporary graphic prints
  • Mountain cabin: landscape photography, nature scenes, rustic abstract in earth tones
  • Desert rental: Southwestern-inspired abstract, desert landscape, warm earth palette
  • Neutral or multi-market property: abstract in warm neutrals or timeless black-and-white photography

Full-Property Cohesion

The most effective STR art programs treat the property as a whole, not room by room. Define a 2-3 color palette for the property and ensure all art fits within it. This does not mean all art must match, but it should feel curated. Guests pick up on visual coherence and respond positively in reviews.

Budget and Sourcing

  • Budget: $50-$300 per significant wall in a mid-range STR property
  • Large living area focal piece: $100-$500 depending on format and size
  • Bedroom art: $50-$150 per piece is the typical STR range
  • Print-on-demand sources: allow future reprints if pieces need replacing due to damage
  • Canvas or metal prints: more humidity-resistant than paper-based prints for STR use
